Stunning and pious, yet pensive and humanist - Sir Peter Paul Rubens explores religious imagery, but never loses curiosity of the human condition. Rubens studied every great Italian artist: from Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto to Michelangelo, Raphael, Caravaggio, and Leonardo da Vinci. This collection by the Great Artist of Antwerp is a color paperback perfect for a coffee table, waiting room, or anyone who just needs a splash of art in their lives.Sir Peter Paul Rubens was a Flemish artist born June 28th, 1577 in Siegen. Siegen, in modern Germany but then part of the Holy Roman Empire, was in the County of Nassau. His father, Jan Rubens, a Calvinist, fled to Cologne from Antwerp in 1568 fearing persecution at the hands Philip II of Spain. Peter would return to Antwerp in 1589 at age 12. He would spend much of his life as an artist and diplomat. The house where he lived and worked is now the Rubenhuis Museum, a villa in the centre of Antwerp.
