Gibsons: Grandads Workshop (1000)

Gibsons: Grandads Workshop (1000)

Some would call it organised chaos. Old tins of paint that were last used years ago, rusty tins of screws and nails, bottles of varnish, and pots of dried up putty are kept just in case. This Aladdin’s cave, with its own special smells, wood shavings and cobwebs is Grandad’s haven.

Regrettably this wonderful image is tinged with sadness, because this is Michael Herring’s very last painting to be published as a Gibsons jigsaw. Michael Herring passed away in August 2010 and his unique style of painting will be missed by all those who have enjoyed his pictures and puzzles over many years.

As with all Gibsons jigsaws, the beautifully illustrated pieces are made from the highest quality 100% recycled board and are therefore a pleasure to work with again and again.

Artist Profile

Michael David Herring

Michael David Herring was born in 1944 in Hertfordshire and moved to Norfolk in 2001. Having spent the majority of his time on his grandparent’s farm, Michael developed an enduring love of the English countryside and his paintings recapture the traditional values of rural England. Working from sketches, photographs and the memories of his childhood, his paintings combine atmosphere and detailed observation with a mastery of the medium of oil-painting. Michael turned to painting professionally in 1985 and some of his much-loved puzzles include Meeting the Neighbours and Grandad’s Workshop. Sadly, Michael past away in 2010, and unique style of painting will be missed by all those who have enjoyed his paintings and puzzles over many years.
